The Atlantic shoreline and dunes with Visit OBX branding and the words Find your Outer Banks

Policies

Privacy policy

What this website collects, why, and what it does not do — written to describe how this site actually behaves rather than a generic template.

The short version

This website collects one thing: anonymous traffic statistics. It does not track you across other websites, does not record your screen, and carries no advertising tags.

What we collect

Traffic statistics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which guides people read. It tells us how many people opened the lighthouse guide this week, not who they are. Your IP address is handled by Google and is not stored by us. These counts also feed MKL Hospitality Group’s combined reporting across its properties.

We also count clicks to call or open the booking provider, and confirmed successful enquiry submissions. These events include the site name and page path, but no form fields, visitor phone number or query parameters. A booking click does not confirm a completed reservation.

What you send us. If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, any phone number you give us, and your message. That reaches the MKL office and is used to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Cookies. See the cookie policy.

What we no longer do

The previous version of this site carried all of the following. None of it is here:

  • Eight Google Analytics properties at once — this site’s own, plus the individual tag of every MKL hotel. Each hotel’s analytics was being credited with this site’s visitors.
  • Universal Analytics, which stopped collecting data in July 2024 and was still loading.
  • Microsoft Clarity, a session-recording and heatmap tool.
  • Sojern, a travel advertising tag.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your information.
  • We do not run advertising or retargeting tags.
  • We do not use session recording or heatmap tools.
  • We do not ask for payment details on this website. This site takes no bookings — each hotel’s own site does that, under its own policy.

The hotels’ own websites

The hotels listed here have their own websites and their own privacy policies. When you follow a link to one of them you leave this site, and what happens to your information there is covered by that hotel’s policy, not this one.

Your choices

You can block cookies in your browser — see the cookie policy — and the site will still work. To ask what we hold about you, or to have an enquiry deleted, email info@mklhotels.com or call +1 (804) 591-1755.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here.
