Accessibility
How this website is built to be usable with a screen reader, a keyboard or at a larger text size, and how to tell us when something is not.
This page describes the website, not the places it writes about. For access at a particular beach, park or hotel, contact that place directly.
The previous version of this site had 54 elements failing colour contrast at phone width — the worst of any site in the group — nine elements with text under 12 px, buttons with no accessible name, and 502 of 724 photographs with no alternative text at all. This page states what is true of the rebuilt site.
What we build to
This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. Every page is tested automatically against that standard at three screen widths — 320, 390 and 1440 pixels — and the build is not released with a known violation outstanding.
That testing covers:
- Text contrast against its background, at AA ratios.
- Alternative text on every image. This is enforced when the site is built: a photograph added without a description fails the build rather than reaching you.
- Keyboard navigation. Every control can be reached and operated without a mouse, and the focused element is always visible.
- Tap targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels for standalone controls. The previous site’s “Book Now” buttons were 28 pixels tall.
- Text that scales. Nothing here disables pinch-zoom, and the layout holds when text is enlarged.
- Headings and landmarks in a real order, so a screen reader can navigate
the page by structure. The previous site had no
H1on 37 of the 70 pages checked, and none at all on 76 of a further 77.
What is not done yet
Automated testing catches a great deal, but not everything. We have not yet completed a manual review with a screen reader.
Tell us
If something here is difficult to use with a screen reader, a keyboard, or at a larger text size, please tell us on +1 (804) 591-1755 or info@mklhotels.com. That is a fault we want to fix, not a complaint we want to manage.
